    WILSON, Thomas Pte 1486 96th 22yrs, , deserted 4 June 1842, Adelaide. Enlisted 19 May 1840,Lancashire; born Carlisle. Deserted again in South Australia 1 Feb 1843, 5 Oct 1845 and again 25 Dec 1845;letter D under left armpit

    DESERTION.
    Hobart Town Barracks, 12th July, 1842.
    Report of a Deserter from the 96th Regiment of Foot.
    Name- Thomas Wilson.
    Age- twenty-one years.
    Size- five feet six inches.
    Hair- brown.
    Eyes- blue.
    Date of Desertion- 4th June, 1842.
    From whence deserted- Adelaide, South Australia.
    Where born- Carlisle, Cumberland.
    Former trade or occupation- sawyer.
    Dress at the time of desertion- regimental jacket, cloth trowsers, side belt, and forage cap.

    The January 1842 census of Hobart Town reveals a Thomas Wilson living with Ann at 21 Barrack Street
    with one child and one 'other'.
