      Margaret Carson came to New Zealand on the 'Oriental Queen' in September 1849, sponsored by her

      'Fencible' brother-in-law Benjamin Palmer who was married to  Margaret's sister Martha.

      Margaret Carson was witness at the marriage of John Darby and Eliza Smith at Auckland  in 1850 and the Palmer and Smith families lived close to each other in Auckland.
