      In a book called “Ubique” – the Royal Engineers 1835-1902, by Ronald McNicholl, 1977, John Twiss is mentioned as a significant person.  In 1816 he was a 2nd Lt, 1825-Lt, 1839-Capt, 1844 arrived in Hobart,  Oct 1844-Sydney, 1846-Swan River, 1847-Launceston, 1848-CRE<VDL, 1853-depart Tas, 1854 Lt Col, 1859-Col, 1864-Maj-Gen, retired.  He died before 1870.
