    Colour Sergeant Thomas Ashton arrived in Australia as part of the North Hamptonshire Regiment (48th
    Regiment of Foot) contingent, on board the ship "Dick" on 3/11/1817 one of three ships. The" Barque..Matilda ", and HM. ship " Lloyd's " being the other two .
    Following 21 years of service Thomas discharged 24/2/1824. During the month of September 1824 he is
    being shown as being in charge of the Military Canteen at Sydney Barracks. Thomas was issued 100 acres of land (where exactly at this point is unknown.)
    There is no record of Thomas being issued the General Service Medal For his military service.
