The Soldiers listed below represent the soldiers who were in Australia on Garrison Duty. It is unsure if they settled. If it is confirmed they will be given their own page and be listed above. The list of names has come from many areas, Military records of the Regiment , Pay rolls, Pay Musters, Cemetery Records, Church Records & General Muster Records etc etc . Many soldiers transferred from Regiment to Regiment

This list is still being compiled and will take a long time to complete. If not linked it is not yet complete.

• LUGARD I. W. Henry went to Newcastle to add his expertise to the building of the breakwater. Arrived on the ill fated Hive which sank 1837. He stayed in the colony until 1844

• Men listed as deserting from the Regiment

  These men have been recorded as deserting from the Regiment in which they served. There is more than a strong possibility these men eventually settled. We have included them as they recieved a description etc. and it may be of help to their descendants. Today we understand why these men deserted, many were treated worse than the convicts were.

• FEARNSIDE, Edwin Homer Pte 2560 RE 29yrs, 5'7"; fair complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes; enlisted 25.7.48, Stanley Yorkshire; Sawyer; born Birstall Yorkshire; deserted at Parramatta 4.4.1860.

• FORBES, Alexander; Spr Royal Sappers & Miners 26.6yrs, 5'10", fair complexion, light brown hair, grey eyes; painter & land surveyor, born Edinburgh; deserted at Hobart Town on 23.3.1854. Source -

• HENDERSON, Peter Spr RE 28yrs, 5'8", fair complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes; born Clackmannon Scotland; deserted at Melbourne on 2.7.1861.

• HORNER, Edwin RE 29yrs, 5'7", fair complexion, light brown hair, blue eyes; born Yorkshire; deserted at Parramatta on 4.4.1860.
