Ships transporting
the
96th Regiment
- Some of these ships carried members of the 96th
Regiment to Australia. Some soldiers Transfered from earlier Regiments
in Australia and they will be listed on their ships
- We are attempting to place each soldier of the
96th Regiment, who arrived on board their respective Ship.
It does not represent all soldiers only those
who may have settled.
- We have omitted convicts from these pages as
the site is dedicated to the Soldiers.
- It is not
intended to justify or condone the actions or behaviour of some of the
military or the civilian contractors in any form,
and should not be taken that way.
- Information regarding convicts can be found on

- During 1839 instructions had been received for the 96th
Regiment to be held in readiness to embark in detachments for New South
Wales, supplying convict guards on different vessels employed on this duty:
and as a result the regiment sailed from England in no fewer than 26
different parties as follows:

enlisted.

- Brevet Major Robertson 30 other ranks. The ship master was Wm. Mills and the Surgeon Superintendent
was Jas. Baird. The first 20 detachments landed in Sydney, New South Wales
whilst the remaining six proceeded to Van Diemen's Land and disembarked in
Hobart between September 1841 and February 1842.arrived at Hobart Town,
Van Diemen's Land on the 18th of November 1841.
