    History & Achievements :
    Thomas boarded the Pestonjee Bomanjee on 14 May, 1844 and sailed from Gravesend on 17 May, 1844 via Rio to refresh, remained 8 days, sailed 6th July, 1844 and arrived Hobart, Tasmania on 10 September, 1844, remained 10 days, sailed 21 September, 1844 arriving in Sydney on 28 September, 1844. Thomas disembarked 2 days later on the 30th.
    With insufficient troops in New Zealand to meet the threat, some of the58th Regiment of Foot, then based in Australia, was reluctantly dispatched in February 1845 to NZ because of the unrest with the Maori in the Bay of Islands, soon to be followed by further troops but returned to Sydney on 5 December 1846. However, the entire regiment, including those soldiers of the 58th who had stayed in NSW was soon recalled to NZ between June and September 1847.
    After 22 years in service and aged 43 years he retired at Parramatta NSW in 1847.
