- Captain Robert Andrew Wauch
arrived
in Australia on board the " North Britan "15/3/1836
- Originally the family name was Wauchope ,but
because of a failed inheritance bid by Robert's father ,his
- father changed his name to Wauch. Robert Wauch
began his military career as an Ensign on the 1st of
December 1084, promoted to Lieutenant 5th of February
1807 then to Captain on the 15 of February 1810. During
the battle of Albuera ,Robert Wauch sustained a slight
wound and was returned to England.
- Following his discharge ,he purchased 767 acres
on the West Bank of the King River . He named this
- property after his true family name 'Wauchope' it
is this area that the town of 'Wauchope' has grown from.
Later in life he moved to Port Macquarie . Passing away
in 1866,he was buried on the property 'Yessabah' in the
district of Kempsey
- For his military service he was
awarded the General Service Medal with 6 clasps. , naming
the battles in
- which he fought with distinction
in the Peninsular War under the Duke Of Wellington . His
General Service Medal represents the following Battles :
Talavera -28/6/1809 : Busaco 27/9/1810 : Albuera 16/5/1811
