History
& Achievements :
- John saw service with the 58th regiment in NSW
and by May 1845 was mustered with the main part of the
regiment who had left for Auckland New Zealand, to take
part in the Maori Land Wars. He may have been part
of the fighting units at Okaihau, Ohaeawai, Ruapekapeka,
Boulcott's Farm, Horokiri, or St. John's Wood. He
returned to NSW in April of 1847. Through the
remainder of 1847 and 1848 he was attached to the 99th
Regiment, on furlough awaiting his final discharge.
He qualified for a military pension, but died only two years later.
Twelve years later his wife's younger brother, William,
was serving with the British Admiralty on HMS Harrier in
the Australia Station, also seeing action in New Zealand
during the Second Maori Land Wars (1860-1864)
John's grandson, John Richardson
POOLE made the Supreme Sacrifice, dying, while serving
with the Australian Imperial Forces, in 1916.
