    History & Achievements :

    John Perkins was born in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, England around 1764. He enlisted in the army on 25 June 1796 age then 32 years. John arrived in Sydney on the "Prince of Wales" 2nd November 1796. He served in the army until 24 April 1810 then transferred to VETCO. [Veterens' Company] John died 1813 . John served in the N S W Corps [Rum Corps] renamed 1st 102nd Regiment of Foot. John recieved a grant of land on his retirement and on his military record 1809 leased 91 rods in High Street. 1805/06 census found John Perkins soldier and Christina White arr "Experiment" prisoner with ticket of leave. John and Catherine's first child was born in 1805. John and Catherine did not marry until 1810 in St Phillip's Church where all their children were baptised. Catherine became free 1810/1811. John and  Catherine's marriage certificate states John Perkins, private 102 Regiment Sydney N S W  Batchelor and Catherine White, Spinster of the same place were married in this church by license this thirteenth day of March 1810 at 9.30 am.
