History & Achievements :
Pay
record of Patrick CROWLEY of the 50th Foot, during the relevant
years, 1834-1841. The record was compiled from material gathered under the
auspices of the Australian Joint Copying Project (AJCP). It shows that
Patrick CROWLEY served with the 50th Foot on Norfolk Island
from the time of his first arrival in Australia in Feb 1835 to June 1836. He
was then transferred to Liverpool (NSW) and served there until June 1837, when
he was again transferred, this time to the Illawarra District of NSW. He
served there until his departure with the Regiment to Calcutta, India, in Dec
1840. He then returned to England where he was discharged on medical
grounds in June 1846.
It was not
until Apr 1850 (four years after his discharge) that he arrived in VDL for the
first time - aboard ‘Eliza’ - as a ‘pensioner soldier’. He was allocated land
at Campbell Town and died there on 19 Aug 1854.
