    History & Achievements :

    He had been promoted to Corporal on 30/8/1860 but was a Private on Discharge. Description    5 feet 4 inches tall.  Discharged    12/2/1870, reason time expired. Expected place of residence Adelaide.   Joining the 2nd Btn of the 14th Regiment when it was being formed he saw service in England, Ireland, New Zealand having arrived on the Robert Lowe and finally in Australia in both Melbourne and Adelaide.    Married Elizabeth Meredith in Adelaide on 25/11/1869   On moving to Albury John Newton obtained employment With Mate's Department Store where he remained working until his retirement. After he retired he continued to live in a house on "Mate's Paddock" where he looked after the delivery horses while the were being spelled. He died in 1921 and is buried in the Albury Cemetery.    This is a summary of what we have and feel free to include what you wish. Amongst the records that you have do you have the name or names of the ships that bought the 14th from New Zealand to Melbourne in early 1867.
