    History & Achievements :

  • He left Australia around 1831 and went to India to fight for the army there. He was injured during a battle, and sent to the Chelsea Hospital in London, given a pension and then shipped off home to Ireland. He then around 1840 joined a Fencible soldiers unit and was sent to New Zealand. A a few years there, he sold his land grant and went to Grafton where he became a mounted policeman. No on-one has been able to find where and how he died. He married Harriett Salisbury and they had 12 children. He also was awarded a medal in India, which one of his lucky descendants treasures. When he was in New Zealand prior to finally coming back to Australia, he started a newspaper in Auckland, titled the Pensioners Gazette.

He sold his land grant in New Zealand and then came to Australia and joined the mounted police in Grafton. Family were also settled in Glen Innes and Tenterfield. Rumour has it that he was escorting a shipment of gold to Brisbane and disappeared. This was around 1862.
