    History & Achievements :
Andrew enlisted with the 59th Regiment of Foot at the depot, Albany Barraks, Isle of Wight during the
    period 25th of August -24th September 1824.
His army career saw him in Jamaica, Ireland (1824-1826); various places in England till 1830,
Templemore,Co Tipperary, Ireland (June 1830 to October 1831) He was on leave for three months in County Clare in early 1831, one month at Ennis and two months at Newmarket. He served in various parts of Ireland until June 1833 and at the Chatham Barraks Kent until August 1834.
It has been assumed that Andrew married Margaret Wallace in about 1830 at Templemore , which is where
    their son John was born.
The family departed form Deptford in August 1834 on the Convict ship "Henry Porcher"Andrew was a
convict guard on board, Margaret became very ill during the voyage. She was nursing their new born infant who died at sea. They arrived at Sydney Cove on the 3rd of January 1835.
Andrew served at Bong Bong and at Carters Barraks until his discharge on October the 31st 1839 . He had
served 15.5 years as a soldier.
The family lived in Sydney the birth place of Bridget, Anne and Andrew between 1836 and 1841. Their next
children James, Edward and David were born at the families new home of Braidwood. Margaret was left a widow after the passing of Andrew in 1850.
Margaret apears to have married a James Goldsmith at Yackandanda Vivtoriain March 1855. But she
reverted to her previously married name by 1869.
Andrew's grave stone at Braidwood states he died in 1850 at the age of 49. Margaret ,who died in
1875 , is buried with Andrew.
