Achievements :
- Andrew enlisted with the 59th Regiment of Foot at
the depot, Albany Barraks, Isle of Wight during the
- period 25th of August -24th September 1824.
- His army career saw him in Jamaica, Ireland (1824-1826);
various places in England till 1830,
- Templemore,Co Tipperary, Ireland (June 1830 to
October 1831) He was on leave for three months in County
Clare in early 1831, one month at Ennis and two months at
Newmarket. He served in various parts of Ireland until
June 1833 and at the Chatham Barraks Kent until August
1834.
- It has been assumed that Andrew married Margaret
Wallace in about 1830 at Templemore , which is where
- their son John was born.
- The family departed form Deptford in August 1834
on the Convict ship "Henry
Porcher"Andrew was a
- convict guard on board, Margaret became very ill
during the voyage. She was nursing their new born infant
who died at sea. They arrived at Sydney Cove on the 3rd
of January 1835.
- Andrew served at Bong Bong and at Carters Barraks
until his discharge on October the 31st 1839 . He had
- served 15.5 years as a soldier.
- The family lived in Sydney the birth place of
Bridget, Anne and Andrew between 1836 and 1841. Their
next
- children James, Edward and David were born at the
families new home of Braidwood. Margaret was left a widow
after the passing of Andrew in 1850.
- Margaret apears to have married a James Goldsmith
at Yackandanda Vivtoriain March 1855. But she
- reverted to her previously married name by 1869.
- Andrew's grave stone at Braidwood states he died
in 1850 at the age of 49. Margaret ,who died in
- 1875 , is buried with Andrew.
