    History & Achievements :

    Joseph McCalden enlisted as a member of the 23rd Portsmouth Company. He was stationed on board the ship " Alexander" and it was on this ship he left England for Australia. Following his arrival in Sydney he served as a member of Captain John Shea's company, He was sent to Norfolk Island to help with the new Settlement .He settled at Norfolk Island in 1792, but sold his grant to D'Arcy Wentworth in 1793 joined the NSW Corps, and left for Sydney with a wife. He later returned to Norfolk Island, was given a new grant, and supplied the government with pork in 1796. By 1806, he had purchased 25 acres at the Hawkesbury Leaving the Island in 1794 he enlisted in the Royal New South Wales Regiment . Leaving for Norfolk Island via the ship" Reliance " he served on the island until his discharge. Following discharge returned to Sydney, recieved a grant of 60 acres at Mulgrave Park, and was a land owner at Richmond .
