    Hello Barry,

I have made some minor adjustments  to some of the data as I know it, for you to adjust on the website.

For instance the place of birth shown for Leonard is not likely to be Roscommon Ireland - as yet that has not been confirmed and remains unknown.
Most of my searches indicate the surname name of Teazacker is dominant in the areas of Bolton, Wigan and Chorely from the 17th century onwards. Consistent with this family name is the recurring Christian names used in each generation to the present day.

There are two web pages one with the surname mispelled as TREAzacker, there is no 'r' in the name - just keep it as Teazacker or Tezacker.

Over the last couple of months I have explored the AJCP records on the 96th regiment in Australia at Flinders University Library, Adelaide. These records as you would know, only include the history of the Regiment's  relevant service in Australia, although they do include the year 1839 when the Regiment was based in Lancashire prior to coming to Australia.  I have included the correct information on the attachment sent with this email.  I would appreciate you updating the site as these adjustments are correct and as much I have found out so far.

Could you please also include  AJCP (Australian Joint Copying Project) to the references at the bottom of the webpage.

    Much obliged,
    Peter Hayes

PS  The last paragraph on the website is a short repetition of the preceding account of the Murchison River Expedition -  specifically:

Private Leonard Tazicker was one of three soldiers who accompanied an expedition to the Murchison River in December 1848, by His Excellency Hon. Charles Fitzgerald, Governor of Western Australia,
The party were attacked by aboriginals, and the Governor was wounded by a spear.
The expedition was led by Mr. A. C. Gregory, Assistant Surveyor, (later Sir Augustus Charles Gregory, notable Australian explorer).

  • Area Settled :

Around 1870, it can be assumed that Leonard worked on Netley Station N.S.W., as his third child Thomas was born there.
From 1876 to 1886, he worked on Oulnina Station S.A as a boundary rider.

    History & Achievements :

    Murchison River Expedition, WA.

Private Leonard Tazicker, with Private John Gaskine, under the charge of Corporal BAILEY Thomas, accompanied an expedition to the Murchison River area in December 1848.
The Assistant Surveyor of W.A., Mr. A.C. Gregory (later Sir Augustus Charles Gregory) led the expedition, and was accompanied by his Excellency the Governor of Western Australia, Charles Fitzgerald, plus two of his personal staff.
On 1st December 1848, the expedition left Fremantle in the brig Champion, arriving at Champion Bay (Geraldton) on 3rd December.
The party traveled in a north-easterly direction, trailed by a small band of natives who intermittently enjoyed handouts of party provisions.
On 11th December after their work was complete, they commenced their return to Champion Bay.
Originally, the aboriginals had numbered about 8 to 10, but were later joined by several other parties which increased their numbers exceeding 50, when they altogether changed their friendly manner and began to bring up their spears.
The natives followed the expedition at close range taking advantage of the thick cover and threatening the party with a shower of spears, stones, kylies and dowaks.
One expedition member at the rear was grabbed and threatened with a short heavy stick and he called out to the soldiers not to leave him. At the same time, a spear struck the Governor in the leg above the knee with such force as to protrude two feet on the other side. (The shaft was withdrawn from the leg after removing the spearhead).
The Governor, notwithstanding his wound, continued to direct the party, and once they reached the beach, the expedition was able to travel much quicker and was soon aboard the Champion and returned safely to Perth.
Condensed from reports published in Perth Gazette 30th Dec 1848. On the 6th December 1859, Leonard Tazicker arrived on the brig Champion at Port Adelaide, having left Fremantle on the 9th November 1859.
