Pte 3535 40th 20yrs, 5'7", fresh complexion, dark
brown hair, grey eyes; enlisted 27.11.1854, Plymouth;
labourer; born Stoke St Gregory, Somerset; deserted at
Castlemaine on 4.11.1856.
I also have every belief that he changed his name to Frederick
Augustus LANGDON (whether it be legally or not, I don't know) by the time his
first child was born at Castlemaine in 1860 All my records show his name as
Frederick LANGDON, even when he married in 1861 at Maldon. I have the
appropriate certificates from Births, Deaths & Marriages to prove these
