    History & Achievements :
    KIRK Mathew a private with The New South Wales Corps, sailed on Coromandel 2 to Sydney. He accompanied Col Paterson to Port Dalrymple in 1804. No evidence on which ship, its not noted on his pay lists.
    He was discharged and handed over to civil authorities in August 1807. Tried in Port Dalyrmple don't know why, and sentended to 5 years there. He works on public buildings while convicted he is noted in the the Colonial Papers. 20 Sept 1813 he was granted land as a free settler in Port Dal., in the North Esk District. He married Elizabeth (Sophia) Edwards 4th march 1811 in St Johns Church Launceston Tas they had been cohabitating some time we think she came out with him from Sydney. He died in Launceston 1833. He and Sophi had Maria, Sophia (jr) and James Kirk. She had a son Charles Edwards prior to the birth  Sophia jr. He was my gggg gandfather.
    The family descendents live in Launceston and around Australia etc
