- Thomas Key joined the 57th Regiment of Foot in 1824 and embarked
for NSW on the ship Hooghley, serving as a convict guard, and landing in
Sydney on 25 April 1825. He remained with the regiment until it moved
to India, and was discharged in 1832 in England due to epilepsy.
Despite this problem, he subsequently married and emigrated to
Wellington NZ with his wife and their family of 8 children in 1856.Jo
