History &
Achievements:
-
- Abraham Jarrett served with the 57th
West Middlesex Regiment in Sydney and Parramatta and at
the end of 1830 when the Regiment went to India
transferred to 17th
Leicestershire Regiment serving in Sydney and Moreton Bay.
He returned to Sydney in July 1835 when he got his
discharge. He received a gratuity of 6ms pay of 9 pounds
2 shillings and 6 pence, which was an indulgence for good
service during 16 years. He was on the pay-roll
as a Police Constable in 1839 before taking up residence
in Queanbeyan where he died.
- The DC of Abraham states he
was born at Gravesend, England, but Enlistment papers say
"Parish Tudeley, County Kent". The
night Abraham Jarrett died in Queanbeyan the bell tolled,
as he was the oldest resident of the town.
