- William Hughes enlisted in the Royal Marines as a
member of the 2nd Portsmouth Company,
- . William was stationed on board the "
Sirius " and on the 4th of May 1787 set sail for
Australia. Following his arrival he was detached to
Captain Watkin Tench's company, sent as part of the guard
to Norfolk island via the ship "Sirius " on
March the 4th 1790. He returned to port Jackson on the 12th
of December 1791 and discharged . Returned to Norfolk
Island on the 21st of January 1792 via the ship "Atlantic".
William enlisted in the Royal New South Wales Corps . His
discharge date is unknown . He shared 450 acres with 14
other soldiers at the Field of Mars.
