History
& Achievements :
- In 1805, and signed
up at age 18 with the 17th Foot, (date: June 20, 1823) served
in Australia in the 1830's. He married( ) likely in
Australia, and sired three children, of which John Allan
is my great great grandfather.
John
Allan was born in Sydney on the 12th of January 1835. His
mother Margaret died while he was a child, (details
unknown). Subsequently, Mathew seemed to move on with the
Regiment to the East Indies. On October 28, 1845, Mathew
was discharged from the army at Chatham, England. John
Allan his son, migrated to Canada in 1851, A
brother Thomas and a sister Mary show up in the records
as Mathew's other children.
Except
for a sojourn in Canada, Mary returned to Australia, and her
surname O'Neill is noted. Little is known of Thomas.
The
retired Sgt. Mathew Howard married some time after
the death of Margaret. He sired two sons from that
marriage, Mathew and Edward.
We
have no record of his death. Somehow Liverpool is
associated with such.
