                                              January 22nd 1845 Sergeant Hopley embarked for Van Dieman's land, 24th September embarked for Flinders Island on board ship from 25th till the 30th September Stationed from January to  February 1846. Embarked for Adelaide April the 4th. 1st October 1846 on detachment at Port Lincoln South Australia embarking  for Adelaide December 1846  Detached to the following Adelaide 1848, Newcastle 1849, Garrison Cells Sydney 1850 January till march on leave awaiting discharge. Discharge 30 September 1851 on a pension. Service abroad totalled seven years made up of North America 18 months  and in the Australian Colony 78 month from discharge summary " And further that his discharge is proposed in consequence of disability from chronic rheumatism as detailed in the medical report assessed"

    No 673 Sergeant William Hopley Disability Chronic Rheumatism affecting the system generally and with vision requiring the aid of spectacles:.......impaired by this..... Opinion of the Principal Medical officer, at Sydney, N.S.Wales. Having examined NO 673 Sergeant William Hopley I find that his defective and constitutional impaired through age and long service and that in my opinion is unfit for active Military duties.
