    History & Achievements :

.  It appears that Samuel joined the 80th Staffordshire regiment a short time before it was sent to Australia in 1837.  Because of Samuels above average standard of education he was detailed off as a Pay clerk.  This requireed him to visit the various regimental out stations to deal with the troops montly pay.  Within two years he was promoted to Corporal and in 1843 became a Sergeant .  When the regiment was preparing to sail for India Samuel purchased his discharge for the sum of twenty sovereigns.  He stayed and became a well respected police commisioner in Newcastle and when he died in 1855 was given a Fully Military burial.
