John Hardy,
Became a Corporal 18/11/1862 served in Ceylon, then a Sergeant 23/11/1864 in
50th Regiment (Queens own) in the Australian Colonies. Victoria Barracks,
Paddington Sydney. Discharged 1/9/1868. Awarded War Medal, Service Medal. (I
also have his original discharge certificate.) They had eleven Children
together. He needed his commandants permission to marry. (I have their marriage
certificate) After his discharge he was a warden at Darlinghurst & Maitland
goals, moving to Newcastle in 1878 where he was a caretaker at Newcastle
Racecourse.
