- Abraham Hand enlisted in the Royal Marines as a
member of the 53rd Portsmouth Company
- . Following his arrival he was attached to
Captain James Meredith 's Company. William was stationed
on board the ship " Scarborough" It was on this
ship that he arrived in Australia. Movedto Norfolk Island
on October 1791 via the ship "Atlantic ". He
recieved a grant of 60 acre's at Proctor's Rum
Phillipsburg which he farmed well .Left the Island in
1792, discharged from the Marines and became a constable
at Cascade Stream . He left Norfolk Island and
established himself at New Town .
