- James Grant enlisted in the Royal Marines as a
member of the 55th Portsmouth Company, as
- a Drummer. James was stationed on board the
"Alexander "and on the 4th of May 1787 set sail
for Australia. Following his arrival he was detatched to
Captain James Campbell's company. James was reduced in
rank on the 10th of July 1788 James sailed in October to
Norfolk Island on the ship "Daedalus ". No
further information has been found
