Charles and Sophie Goodman
According to pay muster, Charles Goodman embarked from England for Van Dieman’s Land either 25 March 1845 or 1846 it must have been difficult to read which date on the microfilm. (Reel 3842). Private George Goodman (maybe no connection) embarked for Van Dieman’s Land definitely 1845. From Sydney then to the Bay of Islands NZ. Private Charles Goodman displayed Good Conduct 1848 (Reel 3843). By 1849 Charles was ‘sick’ (Reel 3844). He was then on duty in a place Pahant….. Ponds? By 1852 was in Porerua and listed as ‘sick’ again. Received a FREE Discharge (not sure what that means) in Wellington end of 1852 (Ithink)(Reel 1845). Private George Goodman discharged at Wanganui 31 Mar receiving six months pay.
