    History & Achievements :
    All that is known at present of this soldier is he was a A member of the 2nd Royal Marines 1803 till 1812, Port Phillip & Van Dieman's Land accompanied Colonel Collins to Tasmania in 1804 and stayed to 1812 a memorial plaque is located at Anglesea Barracks, Hobart, Tasmania  which reads as follows.

    John Hugh, son of
    Hugh and Mary GERMAIN
    of Muddy Plains
    who departed this life July 29 1851
    Aged 23 years
    Also to his father Hugh GERMAIN
    He was one of the Royal Marines and arrived in the Colony in 1804
    Also Mary GERMAIN
    Born 8th November 1787
    Died 3rd June 1860

    Original burial St David's C of E burial ground (1804-1872) and all the military headstones came from this burial ground and placed at St David's burial ground after being turned into a park
    , which was officially opened in 1926.
