  • Member of Parliament of New South Wales (Formerly the New South Wales Legislative Council) 01/04/1853 to 29/02/1856. 
    An Elective Member of the first Legislative Council 1843-1856 for the Pastoral Districts of Wellington and Bligh.
    Founding member of the Australian Club

    Held a pastoral property near Wellington NSW.

    Commissioned into HM 17th Regiment of Foot (1830). 
    The declaration of qualifications attached to his Oath of Allegiance (tabled in the Legislative Council on 10/05/1853) stated that "he owned estates of several thousand acres in extent in the County of Wellington and houses cottages and town allotments in Parramatta."
     
    Of additional interest is that his Grandson Professor George Ingle Finch reached 27300 feet on Everest in 1922 (accompanied by Geoffrey Bruce) and was instrumental in the development of the use of oxygen at altitude
