tall, dark complexion. Prior to enlisting, a Carpenter
from Knock, Kings County Regiment: 6th Dragoon Guards
(Carabiners), 4th Royal Garrison (Veterans) Battalion,
73rd Regiment (NSW Corps), Royal Veterans Company of New
South Wales Rank: Private Dates: 1793-1823 1793
Feb 19 Enlisted at Dublin Until Sep 20 At barracks in
County Cork Sep 21 Sailed to Belgium Dec At Ghent,
Belgium 1794 On active service in Belgium. Ends the year
at Elbergen 1795 Jan - Oct 20 On active service in
Belgium Oct 21 at camp at Sudweje
Nov To Sheffield, England 1796 Jan
- Jul At Sheffield. Jul - Sep At Sunderland. Whilst here,
he meets and marries a local girl, Elizabeth Stafford Sep
- Dec Regiment at Athlone, Ireland 1797 At Athlone. First
son, John, is born. This is the time of the Irish
Rebellion, which was backed by French troops. 1798 At
Athlone Aug 24 Shot by the enemy during the
evacuation of Ballina, and loses the use of his arm 1799
Jan - Oct 2 At Athlone Oct 3 Discharged from
the regiment, to the Military Hospital at Kilmainham
1800-1802 At Military Hospital at Kilmainham
1802 Invalided to 4th Royal Garrison (later named
Veterans Battlion) 1806 Joins 73rd Regiment
(NSW Corps) at Cove of Cork. 1808 Nov 15 His wife and
children arrive aboard the "Speke" from
Falmouth. Peter decided not to return to England, and was
transferred to the Royal Veterans Company of NSW, and
served until 1823. In that year he received a grant of
100 acres at Jerry's Plains, NSW
