Marine Private Elias Bishop enlisted in the 1st Marines 17th Portsmouth Company of the Royal Marines.
Following his arrival in Port Jackson he was attached to Watkin Tench's Company. Elias's name appears on a protest letter with several others complaining of the stoppage of the Grog allowance.
On March the 4th 1790 he was assigned to Norfolk Island where he remained until December of 1791. He
took his discharge in Sydney. Following his discharge he returned to Norfolk Island where he took up a land grant of 60 acres at Morgan's Run Queenborough. In June of 1793 he married Catherine Smith. Bishop eventually left Norfolk Island on the "Daedalus" on the 6th of November 1794. Elias did not re-join the Royal New South Wales Regiment as others had.
