    He was appointed   ENSIG on 23/5/1848.  On 12/11/1848 he sailed from SPITHEAD/-SO, on the troop ship "RATCLIFFE"  ARRIV.Swan River. South Australia 30/1/1849,Commanded by COLONEL, SIR HOWARD DOUGLAS  BART (or BASH) then to HOBART TOWN, VDL doing Garrison Duty on Norflok Island and Hobart  He was appointed LIEUTENANT on 22/2/1850..   R.W.Bennison,  married LOUISA CHARLOTTE POWER ON 24/9/1849.  He died on 3/3/1858, address being Argyle St. HOBART TOWN. Death certificates states his occupation as a Surveyor, so I am assuming he was going to stay here and settle.  His wife and children stayed in Aust.    .
