History
& Achievements :
- John Bayliss , from Staffordshire enlisted in the
37th
Regiment along with his brother Joseph. Soon afterwards
they transferred to the NSW Corps in June 1789. Bayliss
left England on the Active
in 1791. He was transferred to Norfolk Island in 1793 and
returned to Sydney in 1794. In April 1803 Bayliss was
discharged from the Corps and was granted 200 acres in
the Evan district near his brother. John Bayliss d: 21st
July 1835 buried at St. Peters Richmond. For most of his
life he lived in the Windsor district. Bayliss married
Elizabeth Betty Thomas (convict per the Bellona)
and they had three children. Elizabeth had an
illegitimate son Joseph Thomas that was born on the Bellona
.
