James Angell (Angel) enlisted in the
Royal Marines as a member of the 26th Portsmouth
- Company, 1st Royal Marines He enlisted as a
Marine . James was stationed on board the " Sirius
" and on the 24th of Feb 1787 set sail for Australia.
Upon his arrival he was discharged : 2. July. 1788 and
attached to Captain Meriedith's company as a shingle
maker . On the 4th of March 1790 he sailed to Norfolk
Island on the ship "Supply". where he received
a grant of 60 acres at Queenborough on the 21st of
February 1792. On the 9th of March 1793 he left Norfolk
Island on board the ship "Kitty" and it was on
the same day he enlisted in the Royal New South Wales
Regiment . James discharged from the Regiment on the 27th
of July 1789.
- James served as an overseer on Captain Prentices
farm before being charged with fraudulent conduct.
- James had received a grant of 140 acres at Bankstown. Farming
life or finances may have not suited James for he rejoined the Royal New
South Wales Regiment in 1800. He was struck from record in September of 1807
as a Deserter
