History
& Achievements :
- Alexander McDonald enlisted as a member of the 20th
Portsmouth Company. He was stationed on board the ship
" Friendship" and it was on this ship he left
England for Australia. Upon his arrival in Sydney he
served as a member of Captain John Shea's company, His
wife Mary Oliver had been sentenced to 14 years
transportation . Following discharge from the Marines, he
received a grant of 130 acres at the Field of Mars ,175
acres at Bankstown and leased 11 acres at Farm Cove . On
December the 29th of December 1821. Alexander , Mary and
Thomas Styles were all drowned when their boat overturned
4 miles from Sydney at the " Pulpitt"
- Alexander had bequeathed 130 acres
of land at the Field of Mars (Ryde) to his friend George
McDonald on the 29th of May 1821 ,a member of the the 48th
Regiment .
