    History & Achievements :
Joseph Abbott enlisted in the Royal Marines as a member of the 8th Portsmouth Company,1st Royal
Marines as a Drummer. Joseph was stationed on board the " Scarbourgh " and on the 4th of May 1787 set sail for Australia. Upon his arrival he was detached to Captain John Shea's company. Joseph sailed on the 4th of March 1790 to Norfolk Island on the ship "Supply". Following his return to Sydney town he enlisted in the Royal New South Wales Regiment on the 6th of April 1792, again as a Drummer.
Joseph again sailed to Norfolk Island on board the ship " Reliance" on 18th January 1796
Joseph eventually discharged from the Regiment on the 6th of April 1797.
No record of any land grant or occupancy has been found, we can only speculate that he retuned to England, however there is no proof that he did.
