After Hannah died the same year, Richard married Mary Ann
Watson. They left the colony for Ceylon in 1815 and probably returned to
England. Although his children returned, it appears Richard and Mary stayed in
England.
- BARNES, Richard and Hannah
- One listing for
the Royal Admiral 1792 features Corporal Richard Barnes and his wife Hannah.
- The Corporal
that came with the Royal Admiral in 1792 was in fact James ARCHER.
- Richard Barnes
who held the rank of Sergeant of the NSW Corps actually arrived 22 Nov 1800 in
the colony on the Royal Admiral's
2nd voyage to Australia (ML W012/9900 Royal Admiral 1800 Return of Detachment
of NSW Corps).
- The 1801 muster
shows Hannah Barnes of Sydney, free, arrived
Royal Admiral. This entry may have
lead to the confusion that she arrived on the Royal Admiral in 1792, as there
is no notion was entered stating which year (1792 or 1800) or the voyage I or
II.
- Richard Barnes
served time on Norfolk Island as a daughter was born there in 1804 also they
appear on the Norfolk Island Muster of 1805, they were returned to the
mainland Apr 1809 aboard the Estramia,
on this voyage Hannah gave birth to their son Francis Barnes
- Hannah died Feb 1810 Sydney Cove, soldiers
wife, age 36 years, buried: 16 Feb 1810, Old Sydney Burial Ground
- Richard Barnes remarried 7 Jan 1811 St
Phillips Sydney, Mary Ann WATSON. They may have left the colony for Ceylon in
1815. However there is a possible death for Richard 13 Oct 1826 Sydney.(
