Jacob Ringer’s Last Will and Testament:

In the name of God Amen – I Jacob Ringer, Sr., of Marion County, State of Indiana, being sick and weak in body but of sound mind & considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me hence do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and forever following to wit: That is to say I commit my soul into the hands of God and my body to the earth to be decently buried by my Executors hereinafter named, and after my debts and funeral charges with a just compensation paid for the trouble and expenses of my sickness are all paid – I devise and bequeath as follows – All that remains in real or personal property to be equally divided share and share alike amongst them all of my children that are now living and to my Grandson Wesley Luther Smith, son of my daughter Lydia, I bequeath a suit of clothes such as my Estate will admit of, and I hereby make and ordain my worthy and esteemed friend Daniel Shartz and my son Davie Ringer Executors of my last will and testament to sell property, execute Deed or any other instrument of writing that I could have done should I be living. In witness whereof I, Jacob Ringer the testator have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of August in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and Forty Two.

Signed, Sealed published and declared by the within named Jacob Ringer, Sr., as his last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses thereto in the presence of the said testator and in the presence of each other.

The State of Indiana, Marion County – Before me Robert B. Duncan, Clerk of the Probate Court of the county aforesaid personally appeared Robert F. Lankford and Samuel F. Heaton both of said county and of lawful age – who being by me duly sworn upon the oaths depose and say that Jacob Ringer published and declared the within instrument of writing to be his last will and testament, that his name was signed thereto by Daniel Shartz in the presence and by the express direction of said Jacob Ringer the devisor who made his mark thereto as represented in said writing, that the same was done on the day of the date of said writing – And that they there attested and subscribed the same as witnesses in the presence of the said Divisor and in the presence of each other and further say not.
