| Built
by Nicholas Beaugenou, Sr. in 1765, this house of
upright posts was one of the first built in St.
Louis and was situated on the southwest corner of
Almond and Main streets. The first marriage on
record in the archives of St. Louis took place
here on 20 Apr 1766 when Beaugenou's eldest
daughter, Maria Josepha married a Canadian trader
by the name of Toussaint Hunaut. The Beaugenou family lived
here for some years, and was later occupied by
others until it was purchased by General William
Clark in 1815. It had also been occupied by Major
Mackey Wherry, the first Town Register, for a
number of years but was then torn down to make
room for a brick structure.
