Shingle of Dr. Clarissa V. (Pilcher) Moore
Letter of instructions from Dr. J.A. Campbell to T.A. Moore (16 Mar 1890)

Clarissa Vanbergen (Pilcher) Moore was a student of Dr. James A. Campbell's at the Medical College where she studied homeopathic medicne. She graduated in 1886 and appears to have practiced medicine in St. Louis, but for how long is not known. She was taken ill and as noted here, Dr. Campbell was summoned to perform surgery. The surgery took place on the 19th, but Clarissa passed away on 07 Apr 1890.

Her husband, Thomas A. Moore, remained at her side and documented her last moments. He was beyond bereaved, and left a widower with six children, the youngest being but three years of age.

Thomas, a Civl War veteran who had served with the 33rd Missouri Volunteer and was shot* in the temple in 1863, survived Clarissa by many years but never re-married. He passed away in St. Louis on 16 Jun 1915. He and Clarissa are laid to rest in Bellefontaine Cemetery.

*"Private Thomas A. Moore's wound consisted in an extensive compound fracture of the anterior portion of the skull and a large section of the bone was removed long after the receipt of the injury. he has attended one or more of our reunions and is a forcible and touching reminder of what our country cost." - Memoirs of Aurelius T. Bartlett, Aurelius T. Bartlett Collection, Missouri Historical Society.
