2nd Presbyterian Church (St. Louis)

Located in the Central West End at 4501 Westminster Place, the 2nd Presbyterian Church was designed in 1900 by Theodore Link in the same Romanesque style he used when designing St. Louis's Union Station.

The present site located at Westminster Place and Taylor Avenue is the third location of Second Presbyterian Church which had been founded in 1838. From 1840 to 1870 it was housed in a Greek Revival structure at Fifth (Broadway) and Walnut Streets. In 1870 it relocated to the western end of fashionable Lucas Place at Seventeenth Street.

This is the church in which Shadrach Pilcher's (Joshua's brother) great-granddaughter, Mabel Moore married Samuel E. Jones in 1902. Mabel took this photograph with her "old Kodak."

To see a view of the church interior and its beautiful architectual design, see the Built in St. Louis link at bottom.
