LIGGETT - SHAW FAMILY MAUSOLEUM

Situated at the intersection of Woodbine and Tulip, Block 86, Lot 1437, is the family tomb of the John E. Liggett family. Entombed are the remains of John E. Liggett, his wife Elizabeth Jane (Calbreath), daughter "Dolly" and her husband Claude Kilpatrick, daughter Cora and her husband John Fowler, son Hiram Shaw Liggett.

The "v" shaped channel on the second long step of the tomb, allows a ball bearing to be placed in each channel under the first step, allowing the first step to be rolled onto the second. Once rolled back, steps are revealed which lead to the basement below the tomb. Within this chamber area lies the remains of John's mother Elizabeth (Foulks) and her second husband, Hiram Shaw.

The Liggett/Shaw mausoleum includes the final resting place of other familiy members such as Reuben N. Liggett; Mortimer Liggett; Mary Lizzie Liggett; Mary Lois Kilpatrick and her husband Russell L. McIntosh.

Sarah G. Thomas, who was buried here 24 Apr 1868 was removed 02 Jan 1890; and Elizabeth K. Scudder buried 31 Jan 1917 was removed to #2454 on 18 Dec 1942.
