Fuller History
In 1906 Alfred C. Fuller created sales history when he founded his
Boston brush company in his sister’s basement. Fuller clearly had a gift
for sales and excelled at building a rapport with his customers through
his door-to-door sales techniques. Fuller would go door-to-door, demonstrate
his wares, then return home to make the brushes ordered that day. His business
quickly grew too large for a one-person sales force, and by 1910 Fuller
had 260 dealers and a manufacturing facility. In 1921 the Saturday Evening
Post coined the term “Fuller Brush Man”. Fuller became a folk hero, a man
who had risen from modest beginnings to great wealth through his personal
vision and drive.
