Saint
Queen of Malcolm III of Scotland.
Daughter of Anglo-Saxon prince Edward Atheling,
reared at the court of Hungary;
married (1070) Malcolm;
persuaded Malcolm to initiate a series of ecclesiastical reforms
that transformed the religious and cultural life of Scotland;
founded Holy Trinity Abbey at Dunfermline,
restored many churches,
devoted herself to the care of the sick and the poor.
Canonized in 1251, she is considered the patroness of Scotland.
