The "Angel of Hadley"

At Mr. Russells house, in Hadley, were long concealed Whalley and Goffe, two of the regicide Judges of King Charles I, who died there, after being concealed fifteen years, and were buried in his ground, close to the foundation of his house, where their remains were found a few years since on removing the cellar wall for a railroad. Dr. Sibley says that, as these men received remittances from their wives, and presents from their friends in New England, Russell was probably benefited by them, and enabled to give a college education to his two sons, Jonathan and Samuel, who graduated at Harvard University.
