Edward I "Longshanks" [1239-1307] -- English monarch

Defeated the Barons at Evesham (1265) in the Barons War (1264-67). Noted for encouraging Parliamentary institutions at the expense of entrenched feudal traditions. Subdued the Welsh. He was the hated villain of the movie Braveheart, which took some liberties with the facts. He did try to subdue the Scots, and died on his way to battle Robert the Bruce.
