Braunschweig-Luneburg, Hannover, Hanover
An electoral house of Germany and a royal family of England.
The electoral house descended directly from the Welf family,
and the name Hanover gradually became synonymous with
the duchy of Lüneburg-Calenburg and the electorate of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
Duke Ernest Augustus was 1st elector, and his son, 2nd elector,
succeeded as George I to the English crown, establishing the

George II
[1683-1760] – King of Great Britain
HNVR129

George II was famous for his numerous conflicts with his father and afterwards with his son (a seemingly common problem for members of the Hanoverian dynasty). His relationship with his wife was much better, despite his numerous mistresses. George II exercised little control over policy during his early reign, the government instead being controlled by Great Britain's first (unofficial) "Prime Minister", Sir Robert Walpole.
