Name forms
Arundel, Arundell, Fitz-Alan, Fitzalan, Fitzallen, Fitz AlanFitzAlan - The name of a Scottish family originating in France and having common ancestry with the Stewart family.
They held the earldom of Arundel (1267-1580). The succession is variously given as beginning with the 1st earl and the 8th earl, leading to some confusion. I will show both in the these notes, e.g. 8th/1st Earl of Arundel.
These confusions result, usually, from a title going extinct and then being recreated at a later time by the monarch.
