BOONE, Daniel (Col.) [1734-1820] -- American pioneer in KY

He made explorations of Kentucky in 1764 and 1769,
and raised a fort (1775) at what was later called Boonesboro.
He emigrated to Missouri, then a possession of Spain, ca 1799.
He had great influence in extending American settlement,
and in defense of the Revolutionary frontier.
